| Nomination "AD" approved 02/25/2009. There are various waterways in the district for water containment and for (previous) domestic use; many are historic with some work dating to the earliest period. Construction includes stone (basalt) that is typically cut and sometimes mortared. More recent improvements to the system are concrete and may be underground. Tributaries include the west one extending from 5th and Blanchard to McLoughlin and Apperson water from the 4 pools [outside of district] flows into this leg; the and the eastern tributary surfacing at 3rd and Ganong and extending to McLoughlin between Hedges and Miller.
There are stone walls, many historic, throughout the district generally used for retaining along public roads or pedestrian paths. The stone work may be mortared or not, typically basalt that is cut and faced.
A c. 1920 stone culvert is located at 3rd Ave. and Apperson St.
